Today we will be taking a look at the big and scary guy that has a heard of gold and an amazingly fun wild side, Makoa Gibraltar aka as only Gibraltar. This is quite a strong tank option for those of us that prefer meatier heroes to play with but he still can dish out quite a bit of damage if you underestimate him. First off we shall start with some lore info for this Legend and afterwards we will take a look at his skills and some tips on how to use them.

Gibraltar is the son of two SARAS(Search and Rescue Association of Solace) volunteers and because of that he has gotten used to taking care of others and getting them out of sticky situations in the Outlands. He wasn’t like this always, when he was younger he had more of a wild side to him and didn’t much care about his surroundings. All of that changed though when he stole his father’s motorcycle in order to take it out for a joyride with his boyfriend.

Unfortunately they both got trapped by a deadly mudslide and his father saved them but lost an arm in the process. Because of this happening he began to understand the value of protecting others and never forgot that and devoted his life to helping those in need. All of this made him into a selfless and sometimes reckless person that would do anything for the safety of others.

Thankfully the Apex Games didn’t change that and he managed to retain his skills as a rescuer and a person with a rebellious nature.

What he knew and did before joining changed what it meant as many of Gibraltar’s friend and colleagues have competed in the games over the years for extra money, fame and glory but sadly some of them never came back. Because of that he joined up in order to protect them and get them home safely. Because of his selfless and kind attitude during the games he became an icon, while putting himself in the line of fire in order to protect his squad and send his opponents running for cover.

Up next we will take a look at his unique abilities as well as what they can do and how to use them. They are the following:

Tactical Ability – Dome of Protection: Gibraltar throws down a dome-shield that blocks attacks for 15 seconds. You might be familiar with this shield as it is something like Winston’s from Overwatch. This is a great defensive skill that can also be used in an offensive way by skilled Gibraltar players. While it blocks all kinds of damage from entering or exiting the dome you can run outside and back while firing in order to take the enemy team by surprise. But also be careful as enemies can use it as well for cover so time and place it only when needed.
Passive Ability – Gun Shield: Gibraltar’s aiming down sights deploys a gun shield that blocks incoming fire. This is quite the useful ability as in this game you rarely want to shoot without aiming down the sights and this will make you want to do it even less. The skill is amazing when using a sniper as you will be able to fire off shots while being protected from the initial enemy strikes. While we don’t know the exact health of the shield there is a visual indicator showing bars that dwindle down when taking shots. When the shield is destroyed you will have to wait for a small cooldown before it becomes active again.
Ultimate Ability – Defensive Bombardment: Gibraltar calls down a concentrated mortar strike on a marked location. This ability is kind of similar to Bangalore’s where you throw down a flare that marks a circle around it where the bombardment will take place. After you throw it down the area will start to get bombarded by mortars that can deal quite a lot of damage if the enemies aren’t careful. Since the bombardment lasts quite a bit of time you can use it to keep enemies from picking up their allies that you have downed.

Since Gibraltar is quite a big guy so is his hit box so you should be careful as this is his major weakness. Try to use cover as much as possible when playing him. Keep in mind that while he might look slower when running compared to other Legends he is actually not and he runs at the same basic speed as almost all of them. A nice build for him except the sniper one is a more aggressive shotgun and SMG combo as you will definitely outlast enemies because of your shield.

You can also use your ultimate quite effectively when a teammate is downed for cover fire so try to do that in heated situations but don’t forget to drop down your dome as well. While searching for enemies also be careful not to aim down sights as his shield is quite a giveaway since it’s bright and easily seen from afar. And lastly if you are in a tight situation and are running away you can always use your dome in order to protect your rear from enemies shooting at you.
